The winning design, created by Rosalie MacDonald, born and raised of Grand Narrows, reflects the shared traditions of Mi’kmaq and non-Mi’kmaq communities. At the heart of her design are a drum and beaded friendship bracelet, surrounded by an eagle feather, a fish, music, storytelling, and faith symbols, the colours of the medicine wheel, and three icons of the Barra Strait: the Highland Village Church, the Barra Strait Bridge, and the connecting water. The runner-up, Susan MacNeil, will also have her artwork featured during the event, highlighting the creativity and talent within the community. Festival T-shirts featuring Rosalie’s logo are now on sale in black, grey, and white at the Wheelhouse Cafe for $25, with proceeds supporting future events. Quantities are limited, and attendees are encouraged to wear them on August 30 to show their support.
